Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Every rename and the ZIP export happen locally in your browser using JavaScript. File names are read to build the preview, but no file content or name is ever sent to a server.

How many files can I rename at once?

You can rename up to 50 files per batch. This keeps the ZIP export fast and prevents the browser tab from slowing down on large batches.

What do the {date}, {dept}, {desc} and {counter} tags mean?

They are placeholders you combine into a naming pattern. {date} inserts today's date or the file's last-modified date, {dept} and {desc} insert the labels you type in, {counter} inserts a sequential number, {name} keeps the original file name, and {ext} inserts the file extension.

What happens if two files end up with the same new name?

Duplicate names are detected automatically. With auto-resolve turned on, a numbered suffix is added to later duplicates. With auto-resolve off, conflicting rows are flagged in red and the download is disabled until you adjust the pattern.

Does this tool work on mobile?
